Our Group believes we should unite together and embrace opportunity. We should focus on making Derby and the United Kingdom a better place. Some of our policies include:
REFORM
We will fight for a fairer voting system in both local and national elections. First Past the Post is out-of-date and is no longer fit for purpose.
We support making the Voter ID scheme permanent in Derby.
FREE SPEECH
We believe in allowing people their traditional rights of freedom of conscience, liberty and speech. These rights have been eroded over recent decades by the burgeoning concepts of so-called ‘hate speech’.
COMMITTEE SYSTEM
We believe that all Councillors, irrespective of political party, should be involved in the decision-making process. We will replace the undemocratic cabinet system in the Council, which allows power to be concentrated in the hands of a few, and restore the democratic committee system to ensure the majority of views are represented.
TAX & WASTE
Keep Council Tax as low as possible. For many years Council tax has been raising above inflation and thus decreasing disposable income. Residents having more money will allow them to spend this in the community. In return this will help business grow and create more jobs. Local government spending must be efficient and Councils are obliged to prioritise vital services. Taxes should not be increased in order to fund waste.
COMMON SENSE
We want to bring common sense back to the Council. We need to avoid waste and mismanagement like the A52 project, the huge amount spent on consultation for the Assembly Rooms and the problems with the lumbering Moorways development. We will use common sense to tackle these problems.
National Policies
We are campaigning for national policies too. Here are a few that we are campaigning for:
